This article covers the Brightflag MCP connector in ChatGPT. The first part is for organization administrators setting up the connector for the first time. The second part is for individual users connecting their own accounts. Administrators must complete their setup before users can connect.
Part 1: Administrator setup
Before you start
You will need:
A ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspace, with admin or owner access.
The MCP URL provided to you by your Brightflag account team. If you do not have it, contact your Brightflag account team before proceeding.
Step 1: Choose a connection method
Brightflag supports two ways to register the connector with ChatGPT. Both use the same MCP URL and lead to the same experience for end users.
Dynamic registration. Most organisations can use this option. ChatGPT discovers Brightflag's registration details automatically, so no clientId is needed.
Pre-registered client. If your organisation's security policy requires every OAuth client to be explicitly pre-approved, contact your Brightflag account team for a dedicated clientId and secret. You will enter these in Step 2.
Step 2: Create a custom connector
This step registers Brightflag as a custom MCP connector in your ChatGPT workspace.
Turn on Developer Mode, if it is not already on. Go to Workspace Settings, then Permissions & Roles, then Connected Data, and enable Developer Mode (also labelled "Create custom MCP connectors"). Only a workspace admin or owner can do this.
Go to Workspace Settings, then Apps & Connectors. Some workspaces still show this as Connectors.
Select Create, then Custom Connector.
Complete the connector form:
Name it Brightflag.
Use the MCP URL provided to you by Brightflag.
Under Authentication, select OAuth.
If you are using dynamic registration, leave the clientId field blank. If you are using a pre-registered client, enter the clientId and secret provided by Brightflag.
Select Create.
Test the connector as a draft, then select Publish to make it available workspace-wide.
Done. Brightflag now appears as a connector option in your ChatGPT workspace. Continue to Step 3 if you need to restrict access, or skip it if you do not.
Step 3: Control access (Enterprise and Edu only)
Enterprise and Edu workspaces can restrict the Brightflag connector to specific roles or groups. Business workspaces can skip this step, as a published connector is available to the whole workspace.
Go to Workspace Settings, then Apps & Connectors.
Find the Brightflag connector and select Manage.
Under User Access, choose which roles or groups can see and connect to Brightflag.
Under Action Control, choose whether that role can use all actions, read-only actions, or a custom set.
Repeat this for every role that should have access to Brightflag. Once complete, users assigned to those roles can connect from their own account.
Part 2: Connect to Brightflag (users)
This part is for individual users connecting to Brightflag in ChatGPT for the first time. Your organisation administrator must complete Part 1 before this option is available to you.
Go to Settings, then Apps (some workspaces show this as Connectors), then Directory.
Find the Brightflag connector and select Connect.
You will be redirected to the Brightflag sign-in page. Sign in with your Brightflag credentials.
You will be asked to allow access to Brightflag by the MCP integration. Select Allow.
Return to ChatGPT and confirm the Brightflag connector reads Connected.
To use it in a conversation, open the Tools or Apps menu in the message composer and enable Brightflag.
You are all set and ready to start using the integration.
Troubleshooting
Tip. If the connector does not appear in your Apps list, your organisation administrator may not have published it yet, or your role may not have access. Contact them before raising a support request.
