How to Compare Matters

The Matter Comparison Report allows you to compare up to three Matters side by side across key spend metrics. This helps you analyze how legal work is distributed across tasks, firms, and departments.


 


How to Access the Report

  1. Go to Menu > Matter Management > Compare Matters

  2. Select a Matter Category (required)

  3. (Optional) Apply filters for Law Firm or Department

  4. Select:

    • Matter 1

    • Matter 2

    • Matter 3 (optional)

⚠️ If Matters contain large amounts of data, allow a few moments for the page to load.


Key Data Points in Matter Comparison 🔍

  • 📌 Portion: The percentage of fees attributed to each task.

    ⚠️ Important: This percentage is calculated only from Hourly Invoices since Fixed Fee invoices do not include task details. If a matter includes both Hourly & Fixed Fee invoices, the Portion Percentage will not total 100%.

  • ⏳ Hours: The total hours worked by the law firm for this task.
  • 💰 Average Rate: The average hourly rate of all timekeepers for this task.
  • 📑 Fee: The total billed amount for this task.

Expanding Tasks & Sub-Tasks ➕

Each task can be expanded to view sub-tasks for a deeper breakdown.

📌 To expand a task or sub-task:
Click the green arrow icon on the left-hand side of each task. 


Viewing Timekeeper Data ⏳

For each task and sub-task, you can toggle the Timekeeper Detail option (top right column) to view a detailed breakdown of the timekeeper roles associated with the task.


Averaging Data Across Selected Matters 📊

The "Average" section on the right side of the screen provides the average values across selected matters for:

  • ⏳ Hours: The average hours worked across the selected matters for each task & sub-task.
  • 💰 Fee: The average fee billed across the selected matters for each task & sub-task.

Downloading the Matter Comparison Data to Excel 📥

You can download the Matter Comparison data for the selected category and matters directly to Excel.

📌 To download:

  1. Click the "Download to Excel" button (top right of the screen).
  2. Your download will begin automatically.

⏳ Please Note:

  • Some matters may contain large amounts of data, so the download may take a few moments to complete.
  • For Google Chrome users:
    • Wait until the loading icon in your browser tab disappears before navigating away.
    • The downloaded file will appear at the bottom of your browser screen.
