Getting Started with the Brightflag Connector: Prompts and Workflows

Now that you are connected, here is how to start putting the integration to work. The examples below are a starting point. Once you are comfortable, you can ask far more specific and combined questions in your own words.

Before you start. You must be connected to Brightflag first. See Connecting to Brightflag in Claude.

Your first prompts

Try asking any of the following to get a feel for what the integration can do. No special phrasing is required; plain English works.

Find an invoice

  • "Show me all pending invoices from this month"

Check an approval

  • "Who still needs to approve invoice 84213?"

Look up a matter

  • "Show me all open matters for Linklaters"

Find a person or rate

  • "What rate does timekeeper Jane Berckenkamp charge?"

Review an invoice for compliance issues

  • "Are there any billing compliance issues on invoice 84201?"

Browse vendors or departments

  • "What vendors do we have?"

Custom matter attributes

  • "Which matters have a Region attribute assigned?"
  • "Find matters where the Matter Risk attribute is set to High"
  • "What custom attributes can I filter matters by?"

Suggested workflows

Once you are comfortable with single questions, try chaining a few together in one conversation. The connected AI will carry context forward, so you can refine and drill down naturally.

Workflow: Reviewing your approval queue

  • "What invoices are waiting on my approval right now?"
  • "For the one from Linklaters, what's the gross total and what does it cover?"
  • "What stage is it at, and who else still needs to review it?"

Workflow: Researching a vendor relationship

  • "Show me all matters we have open with Linklaters"
  • "What invoices have they billed us this year?"
  • "What rates does Linklaters have on file for their timekeepers?"

Workflow: Chasing a stalled invoice

  • "Find invoices that have been pending for more than 30 days"
  • "For invoice 84213, who is the review stuck with?"
  • "Has that reviewer delegated to anyone?"

Workflow: Getting oriented in a new department

  • "What matter categories do we have?"
  • "Show me all open matters in the Banking category"
  • "Who are the internal leads on those matters?"

Workflow: Reviewing an invoice for compliance

  • "Show me pending invoices from Linklaters"
  • "Are there any billing compliance issues on invoice 84201?"
  • "Show me only the fee lines the Internal Communications flag hit"
  • "What was the suggested saving on that flag?"

Tips for best results

Tip Why it helps
Use real names for vendors, firms, and people The connected AI automatically resolves names like "Linklaters" or "Jane Smith" to the correct internal record, so you do not need to know any IDs.
Be specific about dates and statuses when you can Narrowing by date range or status (e.g. "pending", "this quarter") returns faster, more focused results, especially for organisations with a large volume of invoices.
Ask follow-up questions in the same conversation Context carries forward, so you can say "now show me its workflow" instead of repeating the invoice number.
Ask "what can you see" if you are unsure If a query returns nothing, try asking what entities, categories, or users exist, since this can clarify whether a name was just slightly different to what is in Brightflag.
Remember it is read-only You can ask the connected AI to find, summarise, and explain anything in scope, but approvals, edits, and rejections still need to happen directly in Brightflag.
